The Garden Rain Gauge…

…which has overflowed twice in this month. Notice the ladybug at 4.5 inches.

Giant Leopard Moth

Leopard Moth
This handsome devil, otherwise known as a Giant Leopard Moth was spotted (hehe) clinging to a post in my carport. According to wiki (so you know that’s got to be true) this moth’s spotted markings are aposematic, meaning that they are communicating that they are potentially poisonous to predators.

Catgrass

Num, num, num…catgrass, which she’s pretending was a wily prey animal on the Serengeti who almost escaped her well-planned and well-crafted pounce and will not be returning to the herd, is absolutely delicious.

So somehow my trusty garden hat fell in a boat that happened to be full of murky rainwater. My man bravely fished it out for me and set it out to dry on a bucket. And now my once cute garden hat looks like the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter.

You could be great, you know.

A Spring Rain

A Spring Rain
by Raymond A. Foss

The world is wet today
luxurious, damp, drenched
drops hug the leaves,
anoint the still budded lilac blossoms
before their blooming
rich purple and plum
made richer by their watery skin
New leaves under the weight
droplets heavy, hanging
bowing the white pine needles
undersides exposed to drink
drink in the morning
hushed in the rain
temperature near the dewpoint
sprouts of just planted flowers
eager from the parched soil
new puddles bloom too
on the ground, the driveway
collect and gather
without the smell of summer rain yet
tears splash and spread
silent shimmers, heralds, messengers
in the spring rain

As a person who is very easily entertained, I get a kick out of some of the search terms people use to stumble upon this site. Here are a few recent ones:

unhealthy looking seedlings
red tree seed soft
sphincter
cows milk music

This, however, was the most intriguing:

build a chicken coop for cats

And what’s even more intriguing is that it has happened twice. (??) So, if whoever used this search term happens to be reading, I’d really like to know the details about this project and what series of events inspired you to want to build a chicken coop for cats. And maybe a few pictures.
